Evan Longoria Injury Update: All-Star Could Rejoin Rays Tuesday

The Tampa Bay Rays look like they're going to get a major boost to their lineup early next week. Evan Longoria could be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday, when the Rays return home to open up a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Longoria has been on the disabled list since May 1 with a partially torn hamstring. Prior to being injured, Longoria was enjoying an excellent year, hitting .329/.433/.561, with four home runs and 19 runs batted in.

Longoria will make his third straight start in Durham on Saturday night, and will take Sunday off. Per Roger Mooney, Longoria will be reevaluated on Monday, and if all goes well, he could be activated on Tuesday.

The Rays desperately need a healthy Longoria the rest of the season, as the club battles for a playoff spot. Through Friday's games, the Rays rank 29th in team bating average (.231) and 22nd in team on base percentage (.313).
