The Tampa Bay Rays' James Shields and B.J. Upton have been named co-American League Players of the Week by Major League Baseball.
Shields went 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA last week, striking out 13 and walking three over 17 innings of work. He led all of the majors in innings pitched and finished third in the AL in strikeouts for the week. Upton hit .400 (8-20) during the week and collected five home runs, six RBI and three stolen bases. He also scored seven runs.
The Rays, who are two games out of first place in the AL East, are idle on Monday.
