A pivotal series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees begins Monday at Tropicana Field as the Rays send James Shields to the mound to silence the Yankees offense.

The Yankees enter the game having lost four of their last five, while the Rays split a four-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend. The Rays are now just 3.5 games back of the division-leading Yankees and 1.5 back of the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East.

The Rays offense will be tested against CC Sabathia, who has split his two starts since coming off the disabled list in late August.

In the two weekend games against the Blue Jays, the Rays offense exploded for 14 runs after scoring just one run in the first two games of the set. Pitcher David Price also picked up his 17th victory of the season Sunday against Toronto.

Date and Time: Monday, September 4, 1:10 p.m.

TV: Sun Sports (Tampa Bay), YES (New York)

Radio: WDAE (Tampa Bay), WCBS (New York).
