The Central Florida Knights will get a second shot at the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday in the Conference USA Championship Game at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium in Tulsa, OK. This will be the third time that these two teams have faced each other in the Championship Game, even more interesting is the fact that these two teams just played each other a mere two weeks ago.
The Golden Hurricane won that game 23-21 thanks in part to the defense holding the Knights to zero net rushing yards in the first half. The defense also gave Knights quarterback Blake Bortles fits, holding him to 13-of-31 completed passes for 169 yards and a touchdown.
The Knights believe that to beat the Golden Hurricane is to focus on what worked for Tulsa and stopping it:
"Playing them again, we're able to look at this film and find out where they attacked us and where our weakest parts were and change it up and beef it up a little bit," UCF center Jordan Rae said. "And try to find where their weakest part of the game was so [we] can attack that."
The offense does not need to be reinvented, but a lot of offensive linemen for the Knights believe that they will benefit from getting a second chance at the Golden Hurricane:
"When it comes down to it, they kind of embarrassed the offense," Rae said. "So it's definitely good to be able to play them again and see what kind of team we have, see if we really want it and see if we made those improvements. We couldn't ask for anything else.
"Two best teams in the conference, we have the same record and we get another shot at them. So let's go."
The Conference USA Championship Game will be played on Saturday with kickoff scheduled for noon and a national broadcast set for ESPN2.
