SMU vs. UCF 2012 results: Knights roll past Mustangs 42-17

The Knights rode a big second half surge to roll past SMU, 42-17 at home.

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

The Central Florida Knights rode a second half surge to beat the SMU Mustangs 42-17 on Saturday night in Orlando. Latavius Murray had nearly 200 total yards and three touchdowns, two on the ground and one in the air, to lead the Knights.

UCF was only up 14-10 midway through the second quarter, but the Knights then scored 28 straight points to put the game well out of reach. Murray rushed for 155 yards and had another 41 yards receiving. Blake Bortles went 10-15 for 110 yards and two touchdowns, and Jeff Godfrey had a touchdown pass as well. Murray, Rannell Hall, and Breshad Perriman each had touchdown catches for the Knights.

Garrett Gilbert and the SMU offense never really got anything going all night. Gilbert went 16-28 for only 135 yards, and the Mustangs didn't break the 200-yard mark for total offense until late in the fourth quarter. Gilbert did have two rushing touchdowns to his credit, however. Zach Line led the team in both rushing and receiving yards, with 96 and 53, respectively.
