The USF Bulls are in the market for a new head coach, and as names circulate the reports can be contradictory and confusing. There's a rundown of some of the candidates linked to USF at the Tampa Bay Times, including San Jose State coach Mike MacIntyre, Butch Davis of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Clemson Tigers offensive coordinator Chad Morris.
MacIntyre is coming off one of the most successful seasons in recent San Jose St. Spartans history. After going 1-12 in 2010 and 5-7 in 2011, the Spartans climbed to 10-2 and No. 24 in the rankings, losing only to Stanford and Utah State. The Spartans are headed to the Military Bowl, their first bowl appearance since 2006 and only their second in 22 years. MacIntyre offered no comment regarding USF.
Davis is currently a special assistant with the Bucs. He has head coaching experience at the NCAA and NFL levels. His most recent gig was with the North Carolina Tar Heels, but an academic misconduct scandal ended his tenure in 2011.
Morris has head coaching experience at the high school level, posting a 169-38 record in sixteen seasons with Texas teams. Multiple reports have linked him to USF, but he has denied interviewing.
Doug Woolard, director of athletics at USF, has offered no comment
