South Florida hired Willie Taggart from Western Kentucky to be its next head coach and as a result the Bulls are obligated to play the Hilltoppers in a home-and-home, as outlined in Taggart`s contract, according to Chad Bishop of the Bowling Green Daily News.
Taggart also owes Western Kentucky $500,000 after taking the job with South Florida on Friday.
Taggart coached Western Kentucky to a 7-5 record overall including 4-4 in conference play this year as the Hilltoppers are bowl eligible for the second consecutive season. Western Kentucky will play Central Michigan in the Little Caesars Bowl on Dec. 26.
Taggart played quarterback at Western Kentucky from 1995-1998 and became the team`s head coach in 2010 after serving as Stanford`s running backs coach under Jim Harbaugh. Taggart has coached the Hilltoppers to a 16-20 record in the past two seasons.
Taggart interviewed with South Florida, Wisconsin and Arkansas before agreeing to become the next head coach of the Bulls on Friday.
